"American Idol" runner-up David Archuleta is going on a 2-year hiatus from music -- to go on a mission with the Mormon church!
The 20-year-old made the announcement last night during a concert at Salt Lake City, where his hometown audience went crazy with applause.
"It's not because somebody told me that I was supposed to do it, not because that I no longer want to do music anymore, but it's because it's the feeling that I felt that I need to do next in my life," he told the enthusiastic crowd.
According to the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, most missionaries are 20-years-old and "voluntarily put aside school, work and dating for about two years in order to serve the Lord at their own expense."
