Anyone who takes on Mariah Carey or Beyonce Knowles is pretty ballsy, but the "American Idol" contestants stepped up to the plate ... and knocked it out of the park.
The hopefuls were tasked with singing songs by *their* idols. Joshua Ledet took on Mariah Carey's hit "Without You" and delivered such a soulful, emotional performance that even he got choked up.
Mariah wasn't the only diva who was covered. Jessica Sanchez (wearing RichRocks jewelry) sang a haunting, slowed-down version of Beyonce's "Sweet Dreams." The judges have encouraged the contestants to make the songs their own (ala Kris Allen covering Kanye West's "Heartbreaker") and Jessica did that with her original rendition.
Others delivered strong performances as well. Heejun Han redeemed himself by dropping the schtick and showcasing his silky smooth vocals with "A Song For You." Phillip Phillips, who guest mentor Stevie Nicks called "gorgeous," also got a standing ovation from the judges with his version of Jonny Lang's "Still Rainin.'" But the most unexpected performance of the night came from Elise Testone, who closed the show rocking out to Led Zeppelin's "Whole Lotta Love."
After a night of sensational singing, who do you think will be sent home? Or will the lowest vote-getter get a repreive from the judges? Tell toofab in the comments bleow!
