Leave it to Vogue and Annie Leibovitz to capture the essence of the upcoming musical movie "Les Miserables."
The celebrity photographer captured the all-star cast, including Amanda Seyfriend, Hugh Jackman, Anne Hathaway, Russell Crowe, Helena Bonham Carter and Sacha Baron Cohen. The editorial photos tell the story of the characters living in 19th Century France who have to deal with broken dreams, inner struggles and love.

We're used to seeing Sacha Baron Cohen play funny characters in movies like "Borat" and "Bruno", but we barely recognized him as the wicked Monsieur Thenardier.
Anne Hathaway was the one cast member who underwent a dramatic transformation for her role. She had to cut her hair and lose 25 pounds to play the sickly Fantine. The actress was all too familiar with the role because her mom, Kathleen Ann (née McCauley), also played Fantine on the tour of Les Miserables. Ironically, she dropped out of her leading role to dedicate her time as mom to Anne.
The movie will be in theaters Christmas Day.
