Catherine "Cleary" Wolters is spilling what really went down in prison with Piper!
Cleary is the inspiration for Alex Vause's character on "Orange is the New Black" (played by Laura Prepon) and Wolters recently chatted with HuffPost Live, where she opened up about her real-life relationship with Piper Kerman (Taylor Schilling's character Piper Chapman) in prison.
The Netflix series was adapted from of Kerman's memoir, "Orange is the New Black: My Year in a Women's Prison" in 2013 ... and while the series is similar to Kerman's book, Cleary says her memories of prison were very different than what she's seen on the show!
Check out the clip below to see what Wolters said about all that sex in prison and how close she actually was to Piper in real-life!
"I'm flattered that they picked out me in her life as such an interesting, charismatic character that they had to make a whole backstory about me," Wolters says in the clip. "I never imagined I'd be Donna from 'That '70s Show.' When I watch that part of the series, I watch it as a viewer. I don't say 'that's my life.'"
"There are hints of reality in the show, and maybe I'm just seeing them because I want to see them so much, but there are things that make me think 'Is Piper consulting on this? Is she telling them things?' The glasses were a dead giveaway [that Prepon is me], so I immediately recognized it in the commercial. Taylor Schilling does a great job of being Piper. Piper's a little less deer in the headlights, though," adds Wolters, who served 65 months for drug trafficking.
Another big difference: The amount of sex behind bars.
"There is sex occurring, but it's not happening in the showers without a shower curtain. If you get caught having sex, you go to shoe, solitary confinement. I never saw it. In fact, I might have stayed had that been the case!"
While Piper and Cleary only spent five weeks together in the same prison while they were serving time in Chicago, Wolter's definitely sounds like she's a fan of the funny show.
Cleary's own memoir, "Out of Orange," is out this week.
