When you have sex and murder a bunch of people before your first official date, your relationship is off to an interesting start.
That's where Stefan (Paul Wesley) and Caroline (Candice Accola) find themselves when "The Vampire Diaries" returns for its seventh season this fall, as the two characters try to figure out where they stand as a couple.
"When we ended in May, Stefan kissed Caroline on the cheek and said basically, 'I'm ready when you are,'" series writer/producer Carole Dries told toofab at Comic-Con this year. "It's like a little awkward, they're friends but they're not friends, they obviously like each other, so we'll be exploring the newness of where we are now. Obviously, there are going to be obstacles getting in their way, but that's gonna be the big, huge, epic love story this season."
And with an epic love story comes a long-awaited first date for Steroline -- and Paul Wesley has some amazing ideas for how they should spend that evening out.
Check out the video above for a few non-traditional dates that only a pair of bloodsuckers could pull off.
But could their relationship be doomed before it even starts? The season finale ended with a flash-forward into the future of Mystic Falls -- something that will continue all season long.
"It's been very fun to see Caroline in the future story lines," Accola adds. "She's living out her perfect dream world, which I don't think the fans will anticipate what that is. That's not what I would have pictured. She's definitely in a very different place when we jump into the future."
Gries only added that it's "very intriguing" to see their status in the flash-forwards.
With Michael Malarkey telling us we'll see "something about Enzo's love life" in his character's future -- plus, teasing some "crazy s**t" with Caroline," could a Carenzo pairing be coming?
"Are you ready? It's pretty heated," Candice joked of one particular moment on set with Michael. "This is a hot tease. We have a scene where we're sitting on a couch and we just shot it the other day. We don't even get up off the couch, we're on the couch the whole scene."
But were they horizontal or vertical on said couch? We'll find out when "The Vampire Diaries" returns October 8.
