Like almost every comedian around these days, Amy Schumer's in hot water over a joke. And like any comedian, she's firing back with more comedy!
The "Trainwreck" star uploaded a gently self-deprecating post to Instagram on Tuesday, seemingly in reference to Monday night's Grammy-winner, Taylor Swift.
The famously svelte Taylor strode across the Grammy red carpet in an eye-catching ensemble that bared both her legs. In response, Amy took to Instagram with a photo of herself on the beach, wearing a bikini and standing with her legs wide apart. "Taylor that's not a thigh gap," she quipped. "This is a thigh gap."
Schumer's post ignited a firestorm of debate in its comments section, with one Instagram user saying, "It's sad to see someone so beautiful tear down another beautiful colleague. Next time don't bring anyone down when you make fun of yourself. There is a fine line between comedy and being offensive."
Another user fervently disagreed, writing, "It's called comedy and people are so bored with their mediocre lives that they have to sit and comment about how rude she is. GET A LIFE!"
On Wednesday afternoon, Schumer responded to the furor by posting another photo of herself to Instagram, this time with a beard drawn onto her face.
The sarcastic accompanying caption read, "That's not a beard this is a beard. So sorry to anyone with a beard this may offend. I am a comic and should never make fun of myself at the expense of anyone else that I wasn't making fun of in the first place. #relax #beard."
This isn't the first time Schumer's landed in the firing line over an "offensive" joke about another celeb. On October 10, 2015, her opening set on "Saturday Night Live" included this punchline about Khloé Kardashian: "We used to have Khloe, Khloe was ours, right? Khloe, she lost half her body weight. She lost a Kendall and we have nothing."
Khloé herself retorted by tweeting, "No need 2 tear down others just 2 make urself [sic] feel bigger. It actually makes u [sic] quite small. I'm on a healthy journey. I don't care 4the hate."
