Michael Cohen has not flipped on Donald Trump or his administration yet, but Hollywood stars are even more confident the president's former attorney will cooperate with federal investigators in wake of reports that he has split with his legal team and expects to be arrested soon.
CNN was among the publications reporting Wednesday that Cohen -- whose office was raided by the FBI back in April after admitting to paying porn star Stormy Daniels $130,000 in hush money -- has parted ways with previous legal representation and found a new lawyer. But why they parted ways has not yet been disclosed.
ABC reported Cohen "is likely to cooperate with federal investigators, as his lawyers are expected to leave the case, sources said."
The development, which is delighting some of the Trump administration's most famous critics, comes in wake of a Vanity Fair report that cited a source close to Cohen saying Trump's former fixer has told friends he expects to be arrested any day now. ("Your alleged source is wrong!" Cohen told VF via text message.) The same report cited another White House official who said, "Trump should be super worried about Michael Cohen. If anyone can blow up Trump, it's him."
That was the perfect storm of reporting that launched Cohen's name as a trending Twitter topic Wednesday, with "Westworld" star Jeffrey Wright, Alyssa Milano and Debra Messing -- three of Trump's fiercest critics in Hollywood -- taking notice. See those and more reactions below.
Now that Trump has solved that whole North Korea thing, he can get back to focusing on what a lying criminal illegitimate colluding with a foreign enemy to destroy Democracy POTUS he is. I wonder if Michael Cohen can help him shed some light on things.
WSJ: “Cohen doesn't yet have a replacement law firm but is searching for a federal criminal lawyer in NY, people familiar w/ the matter said. Cohen wants to hire a lawyer w/ close ties to the Manhattan US attorney's office, the people said.”
