Eva Marcille's Husband Defends Referring to God as Female During His Wedding Vows on 'RHOA'

Eva Marcille and Michael Sterling exchanged vows on Sunday's episode of "The Real Housewives of Atlanta" -- and while most fans online gushed over the couple's tear-jerking speeches, some viewers couldn't help but notice something about Mike's vows.

He referred to God as a female.

"I vow that you will never be alone, because no matter where you go, my love will always be with you," Mike said to his beautiful bride. "And when God sees fit to take us from this place, I promise you that I will ask Her if She will let me be with you in the next life, because I don't want to imagine this life or any life without you."

After the episode wrapped, Twitter was aflutter with questions for the Househusband, which he addressed the next day on Instagram.

"I love my wife, and I hand-wrote my vows from a place of intentional love," Mike captioned a beautiful shot of his bride embracing him. "It appears that some folks have questioned the fact that I referred to God as 'her' in my vows, and they have offered to pray for my ignorance."

"I do not speak much about these things, but I will have a few things to say over the next week or so," he continued, likely referring to the Eva-related drama that was teased to appear on next week's episode.

"I am not a theologian, but I referred to God as 'her' because I believe, as many saints do, that God is a mother to the motherless and a father to the fatherless," Mike said. "I believe, as St. Augustine did, that God transcends time, space, existence and life. I believe that God is God. Thus, if God is a mother to the motherless and a father to the fatherless, I think we err not to see God in each and every one of us. I think we err to limit God. And sometimes, I use the pronoun 'her' to refer to God because I see God as resembling all of us and as greater than all of us."

"I see the divine in my mom and my grandmothers and my sisters," he concluded. "As for my vows, I referred to God as 'her' intentionally because I see God in my wife. And God put it on my heart to make sure she heard and felt that."

Aaaaand, we're crying again.
