Country Star Granger Smith's 3-Year-old Son River Dies After 'Tragic Accident'

It is now known how River Kelly Smith died. "I can confirm that it was a tragic drowning at home," a rep told Us Magazine Thursday night.

Granger Smith's three-year-old Son has died.

The country star and his actress wife Amber Emily Bartlett broke the tragic news on Thursday via Instagram.

"I have to deliver unthinkable news. We've lost our youngest son, River Kelly Smith," the 39-year-old wrote in a heartbreaking post. "Following a tragic accident, and despite doctor's best efforts, he was unable to be revived."

Granger did not reveal the nature of the accident that claimed the life of their youngest child, who had celebrated his birthday just three weeks earlier.

"Amber and I made the decision to say our last goodbyes and donate his organs so that other children will be given a second chance at life," he wrote. "Our family is devastated and heartbroken, but we take solace in knowing he is with his Heavenly Father.

"Riv was special. Everyone that met him knew that immediately. The joy he brought to our lives cannot be expressed and his light will be forever in our hearts. If there are words to say more, I cannot find them in this moment. Love the ones close to you. There has never been a more difficult moment for us than this."

The couple each shared a pic of themselves with the adorable youngster, who leaves behind an older brother Lincoln, five, and sister London, seven.

The couple asked that in lieu of flowers or gifts, to please send donations to Dell Children's Medical Center in River's name, where "the doctors, nurses and staff have been incredible."

The "Backroad Song" singer and "Dallas" star have been married since 2010.
