The "Modern Family" star tries to use a classic high school cheating method only to have it fail miserably on national television.
Doing a press tour to promote a new movie is exhausting. Add jet-lag and trying to do it in another language and you've got a recipe for disaster so powerful even a quick cheat may not be enough. That's what Sofia Vergara found out when she looked for "redemption" and absolutely did not find it.
The "Modern Family" star was on "The Late Show" to promote her upcoming film with husband Joe Manganiello, but she was also tired and had been struggling with the English word she wanted to use all day. So she came up with a flawless plan, or so she thought.
SofÃa Vergara Launches Size-Inclusive $40-Jeans: 'Every Woman From Everywhere Wants to Look Cute'
View StoryThroughout the beginning of the interview, as Vergara once again made Stephen Colbert uncomfortable by gifting him underwear from her new intimate clothing line EBY, it was evident that there was something on her hand.
It became painfully evident what it was when Colbert finally shifted the topic to her film and asked her to describe the passion project to his audience.
"It's a movie about--" Vergara said, and then stopped, staring at her hand.
"Can you not tell me?" Colbert asked after a moment with a laugh.
"No, it's that I am an idiot," Vergara finally said. "I've been having a problem the whole day remembering this word so I wrote it in my hand but I had my glasses on." It turns out she'd written it small enough to read with her glasses on, but now without them, she was hopeless.

"It's a moving about revemption," Vergara said, quickly correcting herself. "Redemption!" The whole thing left her an embarrassed mess, but she never lost her poise or her brilliantly comedic mind.
"I'm jet-lagged, I'm sorry," she told Colbert. "It's about redemption, but I kept thinking constipation, congestion, contraception."

"The clip is about redemption," Colbert joked, while Vergara slipped in another "contraception" quip.
Thankfully for Vergara's sleep schedule and sanity, "Bottom of the 9th" hits theaters this Friday, so she's just about done with this whirlwind press tour.
