Even James Corden Is 'Disappointed' In Himself for Kissing Sean Spicer at the Emmys

The "Late Late Show" host addressed his critics head on during Monday night's monologue, commenting on the backlash he received after a photo of him kissing the former White House press secretary backstage at the award show went viral. His critics' biggest complaint: how he "normalized" Spicer's actions after his time as Donald Trump's mouthpiece.

Corden started his monologue by cracking a few jokes at Spicer's expense, before turning on himself.

"The big winners last night were Donald Glover, Hulu and former White House Press Secretary Sean Spicer. Spicer won Best Actor in a comedy for his role in Donald Trump's administration," Corden joked. "Sean Spicer did make a cameo during last night's ceremony and according to some reports, at the after-party Spicer was the most popular guy in the room. I just want to say I think people are forgetting that this man lied to the american people and should not be embraced. These Hollywood phonies kissing up to Sean Spicer are disgusting. Who did this? Who are we talking about here?"

Cue the photo of the late night host with Spicey.

"I know you think that's a picture of me kissing Sean Spicer, but in the spirit of Sean Spicer, no it isn't," Corden continued. "Anyone ever have that feeling when you get a little drunk and then wake up the next morning and think, oh god, who did I kiss last night? It's a bit like that. To be fair, everyone was kissing ass last night at the Emmys, I just happened to kiss the biggest one there."

Corden acknowledged how "some people have been disappointed by this photo," adding that he's "disappointed by it as well."

"I've been reading a lot of harsh comments on Twitter today and I hear you loud and clear, truly I do," he added. "So much so, I'm really starting to regret that Carpool Karaoke we taped with Steve Bannon. It feels like a mistake today."

He went on to point out all the other people he's been photographed locking lips with in the past, ending the monologue saying, "Basically, what I'm saying is, I need to learn how to shake hands."
