"Congrats to Taylor Swift on her tax break," tweets Billy Eichner.
The Senate passed a major GOP tax reform bill early Saturday morning and Hollywood Twitter was not having it.
After last minute changes happening to the bill via handwritten notes leading right up until the vote, all 48 Democrats in the Senate voted against the new reform, with Tennessee Senator Bob Corker as the only Republican to join them. It passed 51-49.
The hashtag #TaxScamBill started trending on Twitter shortly after the passage, and celebrities were quick to join in.
Here's how they reacted online:
Thank you to all the working class Trump voters who will get crushed by the new tax bill but who's vote just bought me a new swimming pool! You're all welcome to come over and use it! (Warning: there are a LOT of gay guys in the pool).— billy eichner (@billyeichner) December 2, 2017
If you just got screwed by the GOP #TaxScamBill remember that karmic reckoning is less than a year away. They say revenge is a dish best served cold, and in this case, you can dish it out right at the ballot box. Yeah, I’m one of those weirdos who cares about my friends as well as people I’ve never met. I have this fucked-up thing where I think you can be successful without actively crushing other people to get there. Bad American, I guess. https://t.co/AAsR908wkA— Patton Oswalt (@pattonoswalt) December 2, 2017

The reviled "Hollywood elite" will make a fortune on this tax break. And we will spend every dime of it on abortions.— Michael Green (@andmichaelgreen) December 2, 2017
They are using the tax code not only to rob us, but to strip us of physical autonomy, & we all know it. https://t.co/t9qDJhK2yI— Martha Plimpton (@MarthaPlimpton) December 2, 2017

The Republican Party is the enemy of the American people. The Senate just passed the Trump Tax Increase, 1:50am, enriching the 1% & concentrating wealth in the hands of the few. Capitalism & Fascism. The coup is underway. Make no mistake about it. EVERYONE OFF THE BENCH! 11/6/18!— Michael Moore (@MMFlint) December 2, 2017

The deed is done in the Senate, but they still need to merge the House and Senate bills. We have one more chance to stop the GOP from looting our national wealth for their billionaire donors and corporate lobbyists. Now is the time to be loud. #TaxScamBill— Jeff Merkley (@JeffMerkley) December 2, 2017
Save this tweet: People will go to prison for this #TaxScamBill. Intermingling with lobbyists & their campaign donors while writing bills in Congress? No way everything is on the up and up. Rest assured, I’m gonna get to the bottom of this.— Scott Dworkin (@funder) December 2, 2017
At 1:51AM, while you were sleeping, the @SenateGOP passed the #TaxScamBill, robbing the American people clean of their hard earned money. A crime we will never forget.— Michael Skolnik (@MichaelSkolnik) December 2, 2017
