The "Sesame Street" staple shuts down Colbert's optimism hard with one stone-cold statement about Twitter.
Stephen Colbert always has his head deep in the current news cycle, and sometimes it can get a little overwhelming. Thankfully, a walk to clear his head and a duet with Oscar the Grouch ... well, it didn't settle much but it made Oscar feel better.
The "Sesame Street" star was hanging out in the alley behind the studio when Colbert walked out to clear his head for a few moments. Colbert was having a hard time remaining optimistic about the future, lamenting that maybe things won't get better at all. Maybe they'll get worse.

As he explained it, "When things go wrong, it cheers me up and I can't stand being cheered up, so that makes me grouchy again. And I love being grouchy."
"That sounds complicated," Stephen shot back.
"Really? Preschoolers seem to get it."
And from there, the battle was on, with Stephen and Oscar singing a song about things getting better before they get worse before they get better ... before they get worse again.
Stephen tried real hard to convince Oscar that humans are ingenious to which Oscar brilliantly retorted, "You still have faith in humans after logging onto Twitter?"

Sounds a lot like Twitter.
