After a long summer of sun-filled days at the beach, your hair is probably in need of some R&R and with the fall season approaching, a new cut is great way to end the summer.
This summer's most popular requests for celebrity-influenced cuts and colors have included Jennifer Aniston's choppy layered cut and Ginnifer Goodwin's shorter do.
For healthy and chic hair, David John, a hairstylist at Serge Normant at John Frieda Salon in Los Angeles with over 16 years of experience, has some tips.
“In terms of color, I'm seeing a lot of golden blondes, darker blondes and reds are going brighter for summer,” said John, who has styled Courteney Cox and Suzanne Somers. “In terms of cuts, I'm seeing a lot of short, choppy styles, with a little bit of length left on top to be swept to the side.”
Keeping hair healthy is also possible at home.
“The biggest tip is don't shampoo your hair everyday, unless you absolutely have to,” John said. “Also, to protect your hair from the sun, run some sunscreen through it.”
Also, getting hair regularly trimmed, about every 6 to 8 weeks, keeps hair looking healthy, and John recommends investing in a good shampoo and conditioner with quality ingredients. Brushing hair everyday is also important because it distributes your hair's natural oils and stimulates the scalp.
But leave the coloring and cutting to professionals.
“Don't ever try to cut or color your own hair,” John said. “Hair should be kept fresh with subtle styling changes, and always be current, fashionable and flattering.”
Great looking hair is also possible outside of the salon with some simple hair styles that work great day and night.
