News of Charlie Murphy's death quickly made its way through social media on Wednesday morning, as friends and fans in Hollywood shared their condolences on Twitter.

The comedian -- and older brother of Eddie Murphy -- died in a New York City hospital after a battle with leukemia. According to TMZ, his manager said he had been going through chemotherapy. He was 57.

Murphy frequently wrote for and appeared on "Chappelle's Show," did voice work for "The Boondocks," and was set to play a prison guard on the upcoming fourth season of "Power" on Starz.
