On her Instagram story, the model and maybe-wife of Justin Bieber laments that one of the best things about Instagram is taking time away from it.
Hailey Bieber nee Baldwin has seen her fair share of negativity online because she's ... well, because she's online. Being a public figure -- one married to Justin Bieber - certainly doesn't help either.
Social media can be a toxic hellhole of negativity on a good day, something Baldwin pointed out in a string of posts to her IG Story, saying that one of the best things about the platform is when she takes a break from it.
"Being off of Instagram is the best thing ever," Baldwin wrote. "Whenever I take breaks from it I feel so much better, so much happy [sic] as a person.. the second I come back on I get immediate anxiety, I get sad and I get worked up."
"It's hard to focus on your well being and mental health when each time you open Instagram someone is tearing apart your job, or your relationship or essentially any of the things in your life that are positive," Baldwin continued.
She then seemed to chastise herself, and others who put stock in what internet idiots think and say, adding, "I just don't believe we're called to live a life where we're so easily caught up in strangers' opinions on something they have NOTHING to do with."
She then did the usual celebrity encouragement of people to be kinder to one another on social media, using the powerful platform for communication and staying in touch to build one another up instead of tearing each other down.
"I won't let people make me feel like I'm doing something wrong by enjoying my life and being happy," she concluded. "This world has enough hatred, hurt and pain as it is, the last thing we need is more negativity, hate, and division."
Before social media and the internet, fans had almost no interaction with their favorite celebrities. They could write fan letters and hope to receive something back, but for the most part it was a one-way relationship. Suddenly, social media explodes across the world and there's a direct line of communication.
"We need to take a step back and realize we need to express more love and encouragement to one another instead of consistently tearing people down and judging," Baldwin wrote.
In response to Baldwin's impassioned plea, people jumped into her latest Instagram post and started trashing her, saying they wanted Selena Gomez back in Justin Bieber's life and saying that he's the only reason she has any fame. While her Story resonated with some fans, who came to her defense, there was still a divide between haters and supporters.
