The model dumped the actor back in 2005 -- and now we have a better idea of why.
The supermodel and Oscar-winning actor began dating in 2000, but after Gisele started having increasingly intense panic attacks, DiCaprio was one of the many things she said goodbye to as she began a new chapter in her life.
"When I was going through my panic attacks, I didn't even feel like I could share with anyone," she revealed in a new interview with PORTER. "I thought maybe I don't have the right, everybody is going through so many difficult things in the world, and I don't have the right to feel this way. So I'd suppress it, and the more I suppressed it, the bigger it became."
That led to her contemplating suicide, before she dealt with her anxiety by altering her diet, cutting out caffeine, cigarettes and alcohol and going on a series of retreats. With those changes came new clarity about her relationship with DiCaprio.
The magazine surfaced a previously-unreported quote about Leo from Bundchen's 2018 book, "Lessons: My Path to a Meaningful Life," a quote which just started getting serious pickup online today.
"No longer numbing myself with smoking, drinking and too much work, I was becoming more and more aware of things that I'd chosen not to look at," wrote Gisele. "Was I alone in wanting to do some serious soul-searching while he stayed the same? In the end, unfortunately, the answer was yes."
She would later find love with Tom Brady, with whom she shares son Benjamin and daughter Vivian. They also coparent Brady's son Jack, his child with Bridget Moynahan.
In PORTER's preview of their upcoming cover story, they also included Bundchen's thoughts on the #MeToo movement and how she can look at it in a positive light.
"This [#MeToo] movement has united women. It's a beautiful thing. We are stronger when we are together," she told the publication. "It makes me wonder why we weren’t being like this before."
