Milano was hardly the only one taking him to task for the error.
I before E, except after C ... unless you're the President.
"'President Donald J. Trump is the greatest hostage negotiator that I know of in the history of the United States. 20 hostages, many in impossible circumstances, have been released in last two years. No money was paid.' Cheif Hostage Negotiator, USA!" the President tweeted, sharing a quote allegedly from Robert C. O'Brien, Special Presidential Envoy for Hostage Affairs at the U.S. Department of State.
The error was immediately and mercilessly mocked. Within two hours of posting, "Cheif" was already a top-trending word on Twitter, featuring in almost 40k tweets.
"I don't understand. I've tried it twice now," Milano tweeted in response to the typo. "When I type 'cheif' my device either autocorrects the spelling error or aggressively underlines it with red. I mean, you have to try really, really, really hard to misspell words in this day and age. And yet..."
It is very far from the first time the POTUS has fumbled his spelling on his personal Twitter account; well known examples include "Hamberder", "Unpresidented", "Smocking" and perhaps most infamous of all, "Covfefe".
Of course, Alyssa wasn't the only one who took aim at POTUS for the mistake -- see more of the reactions below:

I miss having a President who could spell. Words misspelled by Trump:— Angela Belcamino (@AngelaBelcamino) April 26, 2019
Feel free to add to the list.
If you are waking up and wondering why “Cheif” is trending...— Tony Posnanski (@tonyposnanski) April 26, 2019
It’s because Donald Trump is a fucking dumbass who can’t spell Chief.

Trump is holding the English language hostage and we should pay whatever it takes to get it back. pic.twitter.com/nbiavNeu2g

Also, this is a farrago of lies, distortions, self-fellation, and Adderall talking.
Get back to your McGriddle, Grandpa Ranty. https://t.co/Jjwxul7MdR
This is your reminder that a racist grifter who steals from vets paid $2million to North Korea after they beat an American to death, lied about it to the American people and spells cheif because he never reads and spellcheck is weakness. https://t.co/8xZZH6t5ij— John Fugelsang (@JohnFugelsang) April 26, 2019
Who said this? The cheif hostage negotiator USA? Who is that? Is that him? Is he quoting himself as chief hostage negotiator USA after crowning himself chief hostage negotiator usa?— Sarah Cooper (@sarahcpr) April 26, 2019
Yea, but he has a "Cheif Hostage Negotiator"... https://t.co/MEpj54SkXp— St. Martin's Press (@StMartinsPress) April 26, 2019
SARAH SANDERS: The President spelled Cheif correctly, despite what the fake media is telling you kids, the e always comes before the i, without exception. I have had constant calls this morning from Cheif Grammar Experts and they all agree. pic.twitter.com/kNpHEPmbF8— Jeremy Newberger (@jeremynewberger) April 26, 2019
