Other Men Who Have Been Accused of Sexual Misconduct

Mark Ruffalo, Patton Oswalt and Kumail Nanjiani are among the Hollywood stars hoping Franken's resignation is the first of many accused of sexual harassment.

Al Franken announced Thursday he would resign from the Senate in the next few weeks, and the Hollywood stars commenting on the decision think it was the right one -- and hopefully just the tip of the iceberg.

"Time to clean house," Marvel star Mark Ruffalo wrote on Twitter, along with a tweet from an organization demanding the resignation of Republican Blake Farenthold, a Texas congressman who allegedly used $84,000 of taypayer money to settle a sexual harassment claim against him.

Six women -- three on the record and three anonymous -- have accused Franken of inappropriately touching them, but the Minnesota senator did not apologize and maintained the allegations against him are either entirely false or exaggerated. During his speech on the Senate floor, Franken added that he finds his resignation ironic since President Donald Trump has numerous sexual assault allegations against him, while Alabama Senate candidate Roy Moore faces numerous allegations of dating underage girls when he was in his 30s.

"I of all people am aware that few is some irony in the fact that I am leaving while a man who has bragged on tape about his history of sexual assault sits in the Oval Office, and a man who has repeatedly preyed on young girls campaigns for the Senate with the full support of his party," Franken said.

See what else Hollywood and beyond had to say about Franken's decision to resign.
