Jameela Jamil Reveals She Had An Abortion When She Was Younger, Calls It the 'Best Decision' She's Ever Made

Jameela Jamil said having an abortion when she was younger was one of the best things she ever did.

Jamil made the statement in a series of candid and impassioned social media posts protesting Georgia's "fetal heartbeat bill," which bans abortion after six weeks of pregnancy -- before some women even know they are pregnant.

Like many celebrities, "The Good Place" star took to social media to slam the new law, calling it "inhumane" as she recounted her own experience with abortion; and the trauma many rape victims go through.

"This anti-abortion law in Georgia is so upsetting, inhumane, and blatantly demonstrative of a hatred of women, a disregard for our rights, bodies, mental health, and essentially a punishment for rape victims, forcing to carry the baby of their rapist," the actress tweeted.

"I had an abortion when I was young, and it was the best decision I have ever made," she recalled. "Both for me, and for the baby I didn't want, and wasn't ready for, emotionally, psychologically and financially. So many children will end up in foster homes. So many lives ruined. So very cruel."

Jamil then clarified her remarks about foster care. "Ps.. this isn't any diss at ALL to foster homes," she wrote. "I'm in awe of people who take in children in need of a family and a home: but if Georgia becomes inundated with children who are unwanted or unable to be cared for, it will be hard to find great fostering for them all." Jamil added the wealthy will have "much more freedom" and the poor will "suffer the most" under the new law.

The 33-year-old London native also criticized the bill on Instagram and called out the trolls who slammed her decision to get an abortion.

"DON'T GIVE A FLYING F--K WHAT YOU THINK OF MY DECISION. MY BODY. MY CHOICE," Jamil captioned a screenshot of one of her tweets. "This anti-abortion law in Georgia is so upsetting, inhumane, and blatantly demonstrative of a hatred of women, a disregard for our rights, bodies, mental health, and essentially a punishment for rape victims, forcing to carry the baby of their rapist."

"I'm so stunned that our world is not only behind, it's moving backwards," she added. "This hurts my heart in so many different ways, and in particular as a rape victim. I can't imagine having fallen pregnant and being FORCED BY LAW to carry his baby to term, and see someone who looked like him every day, otherwise I can get the death penalty?! How do we help the women of Georgia? And Northern Ireland where this nightmare is ongoing."

Jamil previously spoke about being a rape victim in an interview with Grazia.
